What is done to ensure competitive matches:
The group you play in is determined by your tennis playing strength. Tennis strength is determined by match results when the ITN Rating is calculated and published after each tournament on www.goodnewstennis.co.za The ITN Rating Calculation was designed by the International Tennis Federation. Ratings are used between groups and within groups to schedule competitive matches between players of equal strengths.
A tennis bursary is awarded based on measured player improvement:
Since match results are used to calculate ITN Rating after each tournament a player’s improvement can easily be measured. Each player’s improvement is placed on a ladder which shows the player with the greatest improvement for the year. A weighting was introduced to the beginning rating so that the strong player’s improvement (which is less than an athletic beginner) can be compared with that of a weak player. This ensures a level playing field for every player to be able to win the bursary. After each tournament the improvement ladder is published on the website.
Cost:
R60.00/ hours if you pay late and R37.50/hour if you pay at least 10 days in advanced of the tournament. Each day a player plays four continuous hours of tennis. If it is a two day tournament the minimum charge is R300.00 even if you only play for one day.
The tournaments are value for money.
- You can’t hire a court for R37.50 an hour in most parts of the world
- Although a tournament is not a coaching session the player is getting valuable supervised match exposure at less than an individual lesson.
- Where can a child obtain healthy entertainment at R37.50 an hour today?
